Bush's moles benign
On Friday, President Bush had two moles removed from his left temple. Tests showed the moles to be benign, but Bush's dermatologist expressed greater concern over a mole growing on the back of the president's neck that appears to be less benign. On Monday the dermatologist observed it ordering an air strike on Iran and stacking the federal courts with right-wing ideologues, though doctors will perform further tests before drawing any conclusions.
Senate seats and the political politicians who run for them
The state that elected professional wrestler Jesse Ventura its governor has another entertainer vying for one its highest public offices. Liberal comedian and radio host Al Franken announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate last week and will seek the Democratic nomination for the Minnesota seat up for election in 2008. Franken, who is known for his role as Stuart Smalley on "Saturday Night Live" and his 2003 book "Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them," will seek to challenge Republican incumbent Norm Coleman. Franken enters the race with a significant handicap. In addition to the usual campaign responsibilities of raising money, meeting with voters and articulating a platform, Franken will undoubtedly also have to devote a significant amount of time explaining what sarcasm is to the media.
Britney Spears: Drive me crazy
Britney Spears shocked the nation last week when she entered a Los Angeles hair salon and insisted her stylist shave her head. When the stylist refused to do so and argued that Spears was not thinking rationally because she was "hormonal," Spears allegedly grabbed the hair clippers and cut her own hair. This episode has led many in the media and celebrity-gossip business to claim that Spears is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Apparently, the final straw in determining Spears' mental stability was not alleged drug and alcohol abuse, nor public indecent exposure, nor even the decision to marry and procreate with Kevin Federline, but rather, a dramatic change in hairstyle.
