After submitting this proposal, we waited with baited breath through December and early January. I personally checked Google Video and YouTube countless times, spending hours scrutinizing other entrants' videos. On Jan. 15 we received an e-mail informing us we had been chosen as one of ten finalists. Of the many entries sent in by over 100 schools, ours had risen to the top 10 in this initial stage.

The winner will be judged by a panelist of judges, and critiqued on ecology, economics and imagination. We also have until March 2 to get as many votes as possible from the public, as the voting will help determine the winner as well.

Graduate student Derek Riley, team leader for the group, is adamant that the group will be producing biodiesel by next semester. When asked what will happen if the group doesn't win the grant, he says confidently there are other sources of funding.

Those interested can read our proposal, watch our video and vote at http://www.ecocollegechallenge.com/ecc/vanderbilt.php. Voting will end March 2, and the winner of the EcoMagination Challenge will be announced March 30.
