After more than a decade, university administration finally made the momentous decision to establish domestic partnership benefits for Eastern employees.
What this means for faculty and staff members is that if their living partners are over 18 years old, not a relative, not employed by the homeowner and ineligible for Medicare, then they will receive extended benefits through the university.

Five years ago, I was a young U.S. Marine stationed in New Orleans, La. As a Marine, I was trained to respond to any situation with speed, intensity and a level head; but when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, I had no idea how to respond. Generally, any New Orleans resident can tell you that hurricane evacuations happen just about every week during the summer, so by late August 2005, we all left the city of New Orleans thinking this was another false alarm and that we would be back in a day or two.

I began to develop favorites in music at a very early age, and being surrounded by a family full of musicians never hindered that process. My mother was and still is an avid Stevie Nicks follower, and my dad, although one of U2's biggest fans, always loved to play bluegrass and country on his old acoustic.

"Jesus this, Moses that, Abraham hit me with a wiffle ball bat."
That line is from "Little Nicky," an Adam Sandler flick from 2000. It's a crap movie, but it's a quote that reflects my indifference towards religion.

I don't condone their actions, nor do I plan to admonish the masses who don't agree with me. My convictions are solely my own.
I don't believe in tolerance, or even acceptance. What I do believe in is respect.
