When the NCAA passed a new bylaw last April that prevented schools from providing recruits with media guides, coach Josh Pastner and his staff already had a backup plan.

In the midst of last season, staff members threw around the idea of a blog or website devoted solely to the men's basketball program. By the end of the season, they decided to run with it. Matt Dunn, an operations assistant, was pegged as webmaster.

For the first time in history, student loan debt now exceeds credit card debt, according to a June report on the student financial aid site FastWeb.com.

Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of FinAid.org and FastWeb, reported that as of June, students owe more than $830 billion in student loans, with $665 billion making up federal education loans and an estimated $168 billion coming from private loans.

A decade-long struggle to adopt domestic partner benefits at Eastern came to an end recently when Eastern President Doug Whitlock announced at fall convocation the university would adopt the policy, making it available later this fall.

Referred to in the policy as "sponsored dependent" benefits, the term, President Whitlock told the crowd, wasn't meant to mislead.

It's not surprising to hear about people collecting stamps, coins or even crazy-eyed little dolls from foreign countries, but long time Eastern professor Gene Kleppinger has a collection all his own.

He likes ties.

Kleppinger, who helms over Blackboard as well as being a part-time philosophy professor, started wearing ties regularly back in 2000 when his office sat comfortably in the Keene Johnson building.

On Friday August 20 in the early hours of the morning Tim Long president of the Student Government Association (SGA) of Jacksonville State University, was arrested for urinating in the side of the Brothers Bar parking lot. At the time of his arrest, Long was charged with exposure and lewd conduct.
